I founded the practice in 1987 and began by offering the following freelance Quantity Surveying services.
The practice underwent a significant change in 1994 when I introduced IT. This enabled me to increase my capacity to take on work, and generated significant savings in time and cost. Savings which I am able to pass on to clients, often in the form of lump sum prices, rather than percentage fees and the like; and consequently I am able maintain my competitiveness.
IT has also facilitated the development of my services in the production of Bills of Quantities and other documents, which I am able to provide in various file formats, and which my clients are able to read into their own estimating systems.
I anticipate that further investment in, and development of, IT systems will ensure that I continue to improve my services, and offer ever better value for money.
The practice changed again in 1996 when I became associated with Paul Sherriff and Malcolm Spawton.
Paul and Malcolm assisted me with Bills of Quantities production, and together we were able take on larger instructions; we now regularly have more than one Bill in production at once. When workload has peaked we have called upon the services of other senior surveyors. Malcolm has since retired, and to compensate I have increased the circle of senior surveyors to call upon when required.
Paul is also retained by the Plymouth Roman Catholic Diocese, to provide project management, full pre and post contract quantity surveying services, advice on Department of Education Procedures and to seek DofE financial approvals; all relating to an ongoing programme of school extensions and alterations. I am able to assist with the Bills of Quantities production arising out of this work.
In February 2002 I moved the practice into offices in the High Street in Irthlingborough. I personally project managed alteration and refurbishment works to convert the existing building from shop to office space. The practice now benefits from fully networked computer facilities and greater space to take on larger jobs, and for meetings and collaborative working.
